G is for …….

Hitting the “G” spot!

It’s a question that is often asked and the answers vary. We should all know where the G spot is and try to hit it daily…

Ok, enough of the teasing 😉

The G spot I’m referring to is “Grounding”, it’s right beneath our feet and yes, we should aim to hit daily.

Do you have days when you just wake up feeling a little bit jittery, just not altogether or centred or is it just me?

I’d been going on my daily morning walks and for some reason I just felt I needed to place my hand on a tree, it was calling me, so to speak. There was nothing special about this tree but resting my hand on it for a couple of minutes with my eyes closed made me feel so much better, a little lighter and put a smile on my face.  Now I know the reason why people go and hug trees.

Often our bodies are telling us what we need, we simply need to listen and I’m glad I did. I needed to ground.

So exactly why did I feel better? How does grounding or earthing work?

Here’s a very simple explanation of grounding, also known as earthing, and below are some links if you would like to explore it in a bit more detail. There have been several scientific papers now written on the benefits of grounding.

Our bodies are bioelectrical in nature. Think of the nervous system for example, or our heartbeat and our brains, these all function because of electrical impulses.

When any of these natural impulses are disturbed, and in today’s society there are several things that can cause these disturbances, our body’s communication system deteriorates, and we become more prone to dis-ease.

Earth is also electrical in nature and provides us with an infinite supply of grounding negatively charged electrons.

So, if we are positive and the earth is negative, put them together and you create a perfectly balanced circuit.
Now you've probably had this experience before without even knowing it. You know that feeling after you’ve walked barefoot on the ground, or camped out in nature or my favourite one, laid on a sandy beach for a couple of hours. You feel great right? Relaxed, energised and at ease. That’s due to the grounding effects of mother earth and some places can be more effective than others; for example, where there is water, the ocean, wet grass, all these are better conductors of energy.

Some of other health benefits include;

·       Improved sleep

·       Stress reduction

·       Pain relief

·       Better blood circulation

·       Immune support

·       Balanced cortisol levels, especially at night

·       Improved cardiovascular function

·       Reduced inflammation

·       Normalised muscle tension

·       Faster recovery from muscular strain

·       Increased levels of energy during the day

·       Reduced free radicals in the body

Here are some simple ways to hit the “G” spot;

·       Walk barefoot where there is moisture, like dewy grass or wet sand. This has become my favourite; I now take as many of my phone calls outside and pace the grass whilst on my call. It’s efficient and I can’t use the excuse “I don’t have time for that”.

·       Take that beach towel and go lay on the sand, even if your feet are off the towel, that still counts.

·       Whilst you’re at the beach, have a dip in the ocean or simply let the beautiful ocean water wash over your feet.

·       Sit on the grass to meditate, do yoga or Tai Chi or read a book. Maybe even eat your lunch sitting on the grass.

For those of us that cannot get outside for different reasons, Earthing products may help. These include items such as bed sheets, pillow covers, desk mats, chair mats, patches, magnets and more.

However you choose to ground, make it a part of your everyday and feel the difference.
